PRINCE2 (from PeopleCert/AXELOS, UK) teaches a structured, stage-based method, has no experience requirement for Foundation, and is strongest in the UK, Europe and public-sector work. For most professionals in India with project experience, PMP gives wider career reach.

What PMP covers in 2026
Since 9 July 2026, the PMP exam follows a new Examination Content Outline with three domains:
33% of examPeopleLeading teams, conflict, stakeholder engagement and communication.
41% of examProcessScope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, resources, procurement and delivery.
26% of examBusiness EnvironmentGovernance, compliance, value, strategy, sustainability and AI.
Questions blend predictive, Agile and hybrid scenarios. More: PMP exam changes 2026 and PMP syllabus 2026.
What PRINCE2 covers (7th edition)
PRINCE2 7, the current edition, is built on three sets of seven, with more focus on people and tailoring than earlier versions.
Why7 principlesBusiness justification, learn from experience, defined roles, manage by stages, manage by exception, focus on products, tailor to suit.
What7 practicesBusiness case, organising, plans, quality, risk, issues and progress.
How7 processesStarting up, directing, initiating, controlling a stage, managing product delivery, managing stage boundaries, closing.
Key idea: a project board makes decisions at stage gates, and the project manager runs day-to-day work within agreed tolerances. That makes PRINCE2 popular in government and regulated environments.

Which should you choose?
Use your experience and target job market to decide.

Choose PRINCE2 if…You need a method or are starting outYou don't yet meet PMP experience rules, target UK/European or public-sector roles, or your organisation already runs PRINCE2.
Ravi, 6 years in IT delivery in Hyderabad
Ravi leads sprint teams for a US client and wants a Delivery Manager role in a GCC. Job posts he's targeting mention PMP or PMI-ACP.
Best path: PMP first, because it matches his experience and target employers. PRINCE2 Foundation could come later only if he moves to UK-facing programs. (Illustrative example.)
